Sunday 9th June - 12:30pm
Tom Ayling, a bookseller at Jonkers Rare Books, will be highlighting some of the remarkable stories that association copies around the fair tell. An association copy might be the author’s own copy of one of their books, frenzied with their annotations, or perhaps one the author gave to someone fundamental to the book’s creation. Seeing such a book for the first time can be the most heart-stopping discovery in all book collecting. Taking in examples from around the fair that cover important literary friendships and crucial collaborators in the history of ideas, the tour will be an opportunity for budding and experienced collectors alike to learn about new leases of life books can take on after their publication, and how important individual copies can be to their history.
